The RGV Challenge Grant for the new UTRGV Medical School
Thank you for supporting the new UTRGV Medical School! As you well know, access to excellent health care is critical for any community. Unfortunately, we live in a medically underserved area, where the doctor-patient ratio lags far behind state and national averages. While the nation averages 240 doctors for every 100,000 patients, in the Rio Grande Valley that ratio decreases to 124 doctors for every 100,000 patients. However, a new opportunity has developed for the medical field in the Rio Grande Valley. For the first time, this region will host a long awaited Medical School as part of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Both the new university and medical school will have a tremendous impact on this region!
The UTPA Foundation issued a Challenge Grant and agreed to match $250,000 raised in private donations to set up an endowment of a half-million dollars. The endowment will provide scholarships for students accepted into the UTRGV Medical School. The new medical school will play a significant role in South Texas and your support will make this Challenge Grant a huge success!
