Joseph Wiener Memorial Mathematics Scholarship

Students, faculty, alumni and administrators of the University remember the late Dr. Joseph Wiener as a gentle man whom they knew to be a brilliant researcher, dedicated mentor and friend. Dr. Wiener taught mathematics for 23 years at UT Pan American before his life was cut short in 2001 by a tragic auto accident.

During his lifetime, Dr. Wiener attracted international attention to his work, which included more than 150 articles and four books, three University Distinguished Faculty awards and positions on the editorial boards of three journals. For many years, Dr. Wiener conducted research funded by NASA, the U.S. Army Research Office, the University of Texas System and other organizations, resulting in significant advances in the field of differential equations with piecewise continuous delay with practical applications in biology, geology and space exploration.

The Joseph Wiener Memorial Mathematics Scholarship was established with The University of Texas-Pan American Foundation to honor the life of this beloved professor and to encourage talented undergraduates to pursue a career in mathematics. Gifts to the endowed scholarship may be made to The University of Texas-Pan American Foundation. You can make an online donation below.
